Sinusitis

Sinusitis is an inflammation or swelling of the sinus tissues. Sinuses are hollow cavities surrounding the nose, which cannot properly drain fluid when swollen. A collection of blocked sinus fluid can lead to feelings of pressure or pain in the face, as well as an increase in bacteria causing a sinus infection.

Common Symptoms of Sinusitis:

  • fever

  • sinus area pain

  • teeth pain

  • yellow or green post-nasal drainage

  • stuffy nose

  • headache

  • decreased sense of taste or smell

  • earaches

  • fatigue

  • coughing

While sinusitis usually results from a bacterial infection, having allergies or asthma can increase your risk of getting sinusitis. In order to provide an accurate sinusitis diagnosis, Dr. Wolff will perform a thorough medical evaluation which may include allergy testing.

Fortunately, sinusitis is easily prevented and highly treatable. Treatment for sinusitis can include any combination of a nasal saline rinse, antihistamines, oral decongestants, nasal sprays, or  antibiotics.
